Illegal organ trade rampant in state, says Crime Branch report

The action was taken on the basis of a report submitted by IG Sreejith that many illegal organ transplants had taken place in the state in the last 2 years.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch has found that organ trade is widely practiced all over the state. Investigation has begun into the case registered by the Crime Branch on the issue. The Crime Branch also found out that illegal organ trades widely take place in the state.

Thrissur Crime Branch SP is in charge of the investigation. The action was taken on the basis of a report submitted by IG Sreejith that many illegal organ trade had taken place in the state during the last 2 years. Considering this report, DGP Loknath Behera ordered a probe.

As per reports, most number of unauthorized organ trade took place in Thrissur and Kodungallur area in the state. Government employees are involved in the organ trade and the organs including kidney are sold with the help of middlemen, the Crime Branch stated in the report.
