Thrissur: Reports have emerged that discord with Paramekkavu Devaswom has pulled the plug on Peruvanam Kuttan Marar’s pursuit to complete his silver jubilee as 'Pramani' (head) of the crowd-pulling percussion performance of Thrissur Pooram- the Ilanjithara Melam. Instead of Peruvanam, Kizhakkoot Aniyan Marar will lead the Ilanjithara Melam this year.
Paramekkavu Devaswom is the administrative body of Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple which organises Ilanjithara Melam. A later meeting held on Tuesday decided to replace Peruvanam.
The development is deemed as crucial juncture in melam history of Thrissur Pooram as Ilanjithara Melam is considered as one of the mesmerising symphony.
Apparently, Peruvanam was ambitious about completing 25th anniversary. However, reports suggest he had some issues with the administrative body, which escalated during Paramekkavu Vela. To protest Paramekkavu Devaswom's intervention over placing his son in the front row of the performers, Peruvanam had stopped playing during the performance of 'Melam'. Though he later resumed as the performance as Pramani, the issue did not subdue.
Meanwhile, Aniyan Marar has been associated with the Paramekkavu team for around 35 years.
