Kasargod: It is now clear that the family from Palakkad, who is among the 16 Keralites suspected to have reached joined Islamic State, got involved with extremist activites at Trikaripur and Padanna in Kasargod.
Officials suspect that Abdul Rasheed, who left his native place with his pregnant wife and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and Dr Ijas recruited Eeza and Yahiya from Yakkara in Palakkad.
Eeza's wife Fathima is the classmate of Dr Ijas' wife Rifaila. Both of them studied at the Central Dental College at Poinachi in Kasargod.
It was Abdul Rasheed and Ijas who made the arrangements for the marriage of Fathima with Eeza after her conversion to Islam.
Sonia, who converted from christianity to Islam a year back, married Abdul Rasheed and adopted the name Ayisha. Eeza and his brother Yahiya had converted from Christianity to Islam one year back. Yahiya married Mariyam, who converted from Christianity.
Investigation officials suspect that more people may have left the country to join Islamic State. Though the special branch had submitted a report some months back about extremist groups functioning in Trikaripur region, there are allegations that no further investigation was conducted.
Ijas reached Thiruvallur two years back
Vadakara: Ijas, who is suspected to have joined IS, reached the medical centre at Thiruvallur two years back. The owner of the institute has given the statement to the police that Ijas left the place two-and-a-half-months back. Ijas had told the owner that he needed two months leave as he had to go abroad. Everyone, including the owner of the institute who knew Ijas personally, had good opinion about him.
Polcie are investigating whether Ijas had any close relationsip with anyone in the region. Ijas stayed at the room above the medical centre and used to go for delivering sermons at some places.
