Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil said on Monday that the YC activists who were protesting against the tax hikes in the state will not be scared of police action. Hitting out at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the MLA said if he was scared of protests, he should either sit at the Cliff House or reduce taxes.

Youth Congress workers are being arrested along the paths through which the “king” is travelling, he said. Shafi added that in Perumbavoor, police arrested activists on Sunday, stopping the commemoration of Youth Congress martyrs and the constituency meeting.

In a Facebook post, the MLA claimed that houses of Youth Congress workers were surrounded in Palakkad and Alathur on Monday at about 3 am, and they were “arrested” in the guise of preventive detention.

Shafi said they cannot be silenced by the police and added that the protests will continue.
