Idukki: In a tragic incident, a man in the Koompanpara region of Rajakumari here on Friday succumbed after falling from a tree. The deceased has been identified as Karimpinkalayil Eldhose.

The incident happened around 4 pm on the eve of Vishu. Eldhose climbed the ‘Kani Konna’ (Cassia fistula/golden shower/Indian laburnum) tree for plucking flowers for the Vishukkani (setting up colourful auspicious items and viewing these as the first thing on the Vishu day) setting.

The branch he footed broke and he fell. He suffered a serious injury in the head and succumbed, despite the attempt of his friends to save his life by rushing him to a nearby private hospital.
