Vindictive mother thrashes son's classmate in school; case registered

Kanjar (Idukki): Police have registered a case against a Chakkikavu native for physically attacking a student who is a classmate of her son. The woman arrived at the Koovappally CMS high school on Wednesday morning and thrashed her son's classmate, who is a native of Munnar. The boys were engaged in a dispute earlier.

A school staff who intervened to cool the situation was also attacked. The child was rushed to Arakkulam primary health centre and then to Thodupuzha district hospital. The class 7 students are hostel mates.

Head teacher Leena Jacob pacified the mother and asked her to leave the school premises. She, along with PTA office bearers, have given statements to the police regarding the incident. The school authorities have called for a PTA meeting to discuss the issue.

Child Welfare Committee chairman Prof Joseph Augustine also intervened in the matter.
