Vijesh had told her parents she had run away. The parents lodged a man-missing complaint at Kattappana police station. Before absconding, Vijesh took his daughter to his parents' house.

The decomposing body of Anumol, wrapped in a blanket, was found when her parents visited Vijesh’s house four days after the murder.

Police said that Vijesh had sold Anumol’s mobile phone to a person he met near a beverage outlet for Rs 5,000. The phone will be crucial evidence as Anumol sent messages to her relatives from this phone regarding the torture she suffered from Vijesh, police claimed.
