Idukki: Edges of Sathram airstrip collapse into 150 ft depth due to heavy rain

Idukki: Runway of Sathram airstrip in Vandiperiyar collapsed due to heavy rain in Idukki. A part of the airstrip’s shoulder on a side of the runway has tumbled down.

A 100 metres of the airstrip has reportedly fallen into a depth of 150 feet here. A minor mudslide was recorded in 2018 also due to torrential rain. It has been alleged that the Public Work Department had not taken any action to plant grass on the pavements even after receiving a contract for this.

The government had spent Rs 12 crore till date for the airstrip built to land small air crafts of National Cadet Corps.
