Idukki dam beckons tourists as KSEB gears up to promote hydel tourism
Cheruthoni: Idukki dam and its premises witnessed heavy rush of tourists after the KSEB premitted public entry for six months. The Board is planning to promote hydel tourism here by arranging a set of facilities including boating.
The KSEB has allowed public entry here till January 10. But now, it has decided to extend it to six months.
The hydel tourism officials have made arrangements to restart the boating facility at Idukki dam reservoir. Speed boat facility will be made available here as part of the tourist season.
The number of tourists from other states and foreign countries are increasing day by day. Tourists to Munnar and Thekkady are crossing through Idukki dam after the road to Munnar from Thekkady was closed for traffic.
A total of 40,000 tourists visited Idukki dam when it opened for public during last year during Christmas holidays. This year, already 5,741 tourists visited the place within last eight days.
