ICMR team reaches Ernakulam to study possibility of COVID-19 communal transmission
Kochi: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has started Sero-surveillance, which is used to determine disease transmission and disease prevention rate, here in the district.
The survey will be carried out in 69 districts in the country. The survey will be conducted by a group of 10 under the leadership of scientists Dr. Vimith C Wilson and Dr. Vinod Kumar. 10 technicians from the district health centre and 10 Asha workers will be part of this team. Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam districts have been selected for the survey.
The samples will be collected from 10 different regions in the district. 40 samples will be collected from each point. ICMR will collect a total of 400 samples from the district.
The samples will be tested using the ELISA test system, which was developed by ICMR and Pune National Virology Institute. The samples from Kerala will be tested at Chennai ICMR- NIT Intermediate Reference Laboratory.
Using the testing, it can also be determined whether people have developed immunity against the disease. Apart from ICMR, National Centre for Disease Control and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare along with various states' health departments are conducting the survey.
