Thiruvananthapuram: The winner of the Rs 25 crore Onam Bumper lottery says he is hiding from the public eye to escape from people queuing up to borrow money from him. In a video shared on Facebook, the Thiruvananthapuram native shared the ‘unfortunate’ situation he is confronting after winning the lottery. He says people are not convinced when he tells them he is yet to receive the prize money.
Anoop, who is in the limelight since the announcement of results of the biggest lottery of Kerala’s history, said he is more than happy to help people but has decided not to spend the prize money for the next two years. “People are not convinced when I tell them I haven't received the prize money. I don't even know how the prize will be taxed after I receive it,” he added.
"People are coming to my house every day. They wander around the front gate of the house. They are not convinced when I tell them I haven't received the money. Therefore, we are forced to live with my relatives and friends," he said.
"We were so happy when we won the prize. However, the situation has now changed. We are unable to even leave the house compound. We were unable to take our child to the hospital when he was sick. Even the neighbours have turned foes due to this," he added.
Anoop said at some point he wished he had won only the third prize in the lottery.
