I was targeted many times earlier too; CM narrates story of how a child saved him

Thiruvananthapuram: The in-flight protest against the chief minister was an attempt on his life, said Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly on Tuesday. “This is not the first time I was targeted. I thought those who attempted to take my life earlier were behind this act too. I did not doubt KS Sabarinadhan at first but now things are clear,” he said.

Though the CM said he is not elaborating on it, he went on to narrate a few incidents.

Some of you must be knowing, he said, pointing at the opposition and calling Peravoor member Sunny Joseph’s name. A Congress leader from Tholambra Thrikkaderi Poyil shot at me. You must be knowing, he said smilingly.

“I was walking on the road at Mambaram when a man from a building pointed the gun at me. I was MLA on both the occasions. When I complained, DYSP probed the matter and said it was a toy gun,” CM said.

“Those days, I had to walk around a mile from my home to reach the junction. I don’t know if Sunny Joseph knows him. I am not naming him. There were four-five people standing at a shop early in the morning. A child was working in the shop. They asked the child for a glass. The kid brought glass from his house. They then brought food from a nearby house. They started drinking arrack. The kid got scared as they had machetes with them. I was supposed to come on that route to attend the foundation laying of Pinarayi Service Cooperative Bank. They know I will come that way. When they saw the child’s suspicions, they moved from there. They must have smelled foul. You must know the nature of Pinarayi village. When I was walking by, families were staring at me. I couldn’t understand. A man then told me there was a gang and they had gone this way.

I am not telling the rest of the story. It was a well known rowdy from Muzhappilangad area,” said CM.

How many such incidents I have faced in Kannur during those times. I thought this (in-flight protest) must also have been planned by those who made earlier attempts. I never doubted Sabarinadhan. But now it is clear,” he said.

CM was responding to the demand of the opposition leader VD Satheesan to take action against EP Jayarajan for ‘beating’ the protesting Youth Congress workers in the IndiGo flight.
