Kollam: Never in his wildest dreams did Dr Muhammad Shibin, house surgeon at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, expect that he would have to witness the brutal killing of his colleague right in front of his eyes. It was Dr Shibin who had first treated Sandeep, accused in Dr Vandana Das death case, when he was brought to the hospital.
At the time, the assailant was calm and did not show any violent behaviour. However, later, he got provocated while Shibin was outside with the cops.
“I ran to the observation room on hearing Vandana’s cries. I saw the assailant repeatedly stabbing her. She was lying on the floor. I stood stunned for a moment. Quickly, I tried to pull her by the leg, away from the accused. But he did not let her go and sat on the floor,” said Dr Shibin.
“I kicked on the palm of Sandeep’s left hand and tried to shift Vandana from there. That’s when he ran towards us and stabbed her in the back. Vandana was conscious at the time and was crying out in pain. She was soon rushed for treatment, but…,” he added.
He further said that he saw the assailant attacking the policemen. During that time, the cops did not have any weapons or lathi with them.
Dr Shibin was also part of the team that took Vandana to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. It was on the way to the hospital that he gave his statement to the police via phone
