Thiruvananthapuram: A complaint was lodged against Kannur vice-chancellor Gopinath Ravindran with the Governor for allegedly harassing students during his tenure as professor at Jamia Millia Islamic University. Kannur VC, facing the wrath of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in the Kannur University appointment row, is alleged to have shown negligence as a mentor to research students at the University.

Shinu Joseph, a Kottayam native who filed a complaint before the Governor, alleged many students were forced to quit the course due to the attitude of Kannur VC.

Shinu, who passed MA degree in flying colours, joined M Phil under Gopinath Ravindran in 2006. Shinu alleged that Kannur VC failed to discuss academic topics or analyse the thesis submitted. Further, the draft thesis submitted was misplaced four times.

"When I complained, teachers, including Malayalis in the university, tried to compromise. They asked me to submit a fake affidavit claiming it was my mistake that I lost my thesis. I agreed and submitted the affidavit as they demanded. However, my thesis was rejected citing lack of quality and eventually forced to quit M-Phil," Shinu said.
