Mukkam: The Kozhikode district court awarded rigorous imprisonment and fine for a man and his girlfriend on the death of his wife. Kozhikode Additional District and Sessions Court judge K Anil Kumar ruled that Prajeesh (36) and Divya (33) incited the suicide of Kalpayi Pulparambil Neena (27).
The court has granted seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for Prajeesh while five years of rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 1 lakh fine were declared for Divya. The convicts have to undergo imprisonment of one more year if abstained from paying the fine to the children of the deceased.
The incident happened on May 25, 2019. Police said that Prajeesh tortured Neena both mentally and physically for questioning his extra-marital relationship with Divya. Following this, Neena killed herself by jumping into the well in the residential premises of her husband’s house.
Mukkam police registered a case and initiated the investigation very soon. The prosecution produced 20 witnesses and 30 documents at the court regarding the case. Public prosecutor Joju Cyriac and advocate K Muhsina appeared for the prosecution.
