Hundreds pass border through shortcuts without vaccination certificate, Covid result
Nedumkandam (Idukki): As strict inspections continue the check posts, hundreds of people have started to travel through the parallel roads and shortcuts to cross the inter-state borders. These trespassers include plantation workers, scrap collectors and vendors who are not following the Covid guidelines put forward by the government.
People from Tamil Nadu entering Kerala have to produce the certificate of receiving at least the first dose of vaccine. Those who have not vaccinated should produce the RT-PCR negative result taken within 72 hours.
In order to travel Tamil Nadu, it is mandatory to register in Tamil Nadu’s Covid website. Also they should carry the vaccination certificate of both two doses of vaccine or a negative report of RT-PCR test obtained within 72 hours.
In spite of these rules, many choose to cross the borders between Kerala and Tamil Nadu without any of these required certificates. There are some gangs that arrange vehicle to take such people to reach Kambam to cross the border. Last year, police had conducted regular patrolling and inspections using drones to stop such movements through forest areas.
However, the natives of Kambammettu alleged that the police remained inactive even though they reported about the people who pass borders without any required certificates. They also complained that the scrap collectors often reach their houses asking for scrap items.
