Tirurangadi: A heart-wrenching visual of a collapsing tree along with thousands of birds nesting on it broke the hearts of everyone on Thursday. The visuals that went viral on social media were from VK Padi in Tirurangadi. The JCB driver, who brought down the tree, was arrested later. It was also learned that the tree was chopped down without the permission of the concerned authorities.

Chopping the giant tree for NH-66 expansion here killed hundreds of birds on Thursday. The visuals show how the birds were literally crushed to death under the branches of the tree that came down almost instantly, leaving little time or forewarning for the birds to fly.

Large number of birds, including whistling ducks, were nesting on the tamarind tree. The netizens were furious at people who paid little attention to the lives of these poor creatures and decided to bring down the tree without finding an alternative means to save these birds.
