Human sacrifice: Remains exhumed from couple's residence

Kochi: The remains of one of the two women butchered in a suspected case of human sacrifice were found in a shallow grave in Elanthoor on Tuesday afternoon.

The remains of Padmam were exhumed from the residence of Bhagaval Singh, a local massage therapist, and his wife, Laila, on Tuesday. The search is ongoing here to find the remains of Rosly. The DNA samples collected here will verify the identity of the remains.

Padmam and Rosly were allegedly murdered by a couple from Elanthoor for ‘economic prosperity’. According to police, the women lured from Ernakulam by a middleman were taken to Thiruvalla and murdered. The incident came to light following a probe on a missing case lodged at Kadavanthra police station on September 26.

Police arrested Muhammad Shafi, a Perumbavoor native, in the case missing case of Padmam. Upon questioning, he reportedly confessed to the murders. All three of the accused are in custody.
