Kochi: The Special Investigation Team in charge of Elanthoor human sacrifice case will initiate a detailed probe into the criminal record of the key accused Mohammed Shafi. Sources close to police reported that Shafi’s criminal activities will be investigated over the last 36 years.

Police have collected the DNA of Shafi and other accused in the case. It is observed that the DNA test results will throw more light on his past activities. The SIT is planning to dig into more details on his past from the age of 16 to 52. The places where he lived and the crimes reported in these places will be investigated in detail.

Meanwhile, police suspect his involvement in the missing of a woman in Alappuzha. Crime Branch has been probing the missing of Kadakkarappalli native Bindu Padmanabha (51). When the human sacrifice case came to light, the crime branch team interrogated Shafi and other accused over the missing case.

Role of DNA in nabbing culprits

Police possess the DNA results of suspected culprits in many murder cases which are not been solved yet. In many cases, the identity of the real culprit gets revealed when they are nabbed in other cases.

In the Perumbavoor woman murder case, police collected the DNA of the killer before arresting him. Hence, police assume that DNA test results will confirm Shafi’s criminal record.

DNA test results had helped police to nab culprits in many cases which lacked strong evidence like witnesses.
