Thiruvananthapuram: In protest over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the nation-wide attack on protesters, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists staged a march to the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday afternoon. As the police tried to stop the protesters, clashes erupted between the two.
When DYFI activists attempted to pull down the barricades, the police used water cannon on the activists. Following this, the protesters pelted stones at police. On seeing this, party leaders intervened and pacified the protesters.
Soon after the DYFI march, Students' Federation of India (SFI) activists also staged a march to the Raj Bhavan. The police used water cannon on them also.
LDF organised protest rally at Kalpetta and a protest march at Ernakulam. CPI state general secretary Kanam Rajendran inaugurated the march. Protest against CAA is continuing at various parts of the state.
