Huge corruption in KIIFB, needs CBI probe: Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala stated that a corruption worth crores of rupees have taken place in the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) while inviting tender for a KSEB project. Chennithala also alleged in a press meet that a huge corruption took place in the name of a large scale TransGrid project for power transmission.
KSEB’s TransGrid projects Kottayam lines and Kolathunadu projects were implemented through KIIFB. When tenders were invited for this project, the pre-qualification was changed in favour of L&T and Starlet companies and tender was given for 60 percent higher rates than normal rates, Chennithala alleged.
He added that an official was appointed as chief engineer to give the tenders interrupting the criteria. The TransGrid project at Chithirapuram in Idukki also witnessed a huge corruption, Chennithala accused. The estimate was Rs 11 lakh, but a total of Rs 11 crore was spent by the time of its completion, he said.
He further said that Accountant General’s auditing is not conducted in KIIFB as corruption takes place there. Chennithala also demanded a CBI probe into the matter and added that at least a judicial probe should be declared.
