Hours after besieging ICDS office, Anganwadi workers receive salary arrears
Nedumkandam: Hours after besieging the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) office here, Anganwadi workers were paid one month’s salary arrears to their respective bank accounts.
The Anganwadi workers had besieged the ICDS office and staged a hunger strike seeking salary arrears.
Anganwadi workers and helpers from Nedumkandam, Karunapuram and Pambadumpara panchayats had not received their salaries for June. Honorarium for Anganwadi workers for the month of June amounting to Rs 11,563 per head and honorarium for Anganwadi helpers amounting to Rs 7,500 per head were not paid.
A total of 230 workers under the Nedumkandam ICDS office had not received their salaries even after a delay of seven days. The workers started their protest at 11 am on Thursday. Project leader N. Sobhana inaugurated the protest. The workers received their salary arrears by 1.08 pm following which the protest was withdrawn at 1.30 pm.
The intervention of higher officials helped the Anganwadi workers received their salary. Anganwadi workers demanded the government to take steps to end the apathy and bad behaviour of Nedumkandam ICDS office staff.
