Hot water prepared by police helps people quench thirst at School Youth Festival
Kanhangad: Kerala police came to the rescue of students and parents who were without food and water during the 60th School Youth Festival here.
As part of the youth festival all local eateries near the stages were forced to close down. This caused the participants, parents, teachers and general public who came to the main stage, to struggle without food and water.
The School Youth festival has returned to Kasaragod after a long gap of 28 years. Most of the glamour events on the first day was taking place at Aingoth Ground, which is the main stage of the festival. Mohiniyattam and group dance competitions were held there.
Although the events started late, a lot of people gathered near the stage to watch them. But since all shops in the area were closed, they could not buy anything to eat or drink. The distance between the main stage and mess house also put off the participants. Their only source of relief was hot water offered by Kerala Police.
The water prepared with Ayurvedic ingredients with medicinal values is distributed from the counters. It will be given free of cost during the four days.
Earlier, Kudumbashree had promised to prepare food and drinks during the festival. As they ran out of water, media persons, parents and teachers became helpless.
Although bus services to mess area from the stage have been arranged, long queues meant that participants would not be able to reach the stage on time for their performances. Hence people quenched their thirst with water distributed by police.
Although police had been arranging drinking water during the youth festival every year, this is the first time that such a huge demand was felt on the first day itself.
