Kozhikode: A ‘Hope Registry’ portal has been launched to aid those who are unable to transplant a kidney due to issues in blood cross-matching and immunity issues with the donor. The chief trustee Fr Davis Chiramel and Transplant Nephrologist Feroz Aziz informed that the system will be a relief for those who depend solely on dialysis.
‘Hope Registry’ works on swap transplant mode. The details of the donors and recipients will be registered in the portal. The kidney of a voluntary donor will be given to the suitable patient in the list, which will act as a chain. More donors and recipients will join in this chain that would end only when the first person receives a suitable kidney. When many pairs of donors and recipients come together in a platform, it will help all beneficiaries to find a matching donor. This will also eventually end social menaces like the organ trade.
Hope Registry is wholly a non-profit entity functioning with the cooperation of nephrologists in many hospitals. Hope Registry administrator Dr Javad Ahammed also participated in a press conference held to announce the new programme.
