Heroin seized from Perumbavoor

Kochi: Excise arrested a migrant labourer in Perumbavoor and seized heroin worth Rs 5 lakh from his possession. The accused has been identified as Assam native Nusrul Islam.

The officials informed that he had stored heroine in 181 vials. The accused was nabbed following a raid conducted based on the information that the use of drugs has escalated among the migrant labourers in the region.

Nasrul Islam brought the psychotropic drugs from Assam, said the officials. The accused said that the drugs were kept in vials for easy distribution. Each vial costs from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500.

Excise informed that an investigation has been initiated to find whether he had sold the heroine to students or locals other than the migrant labourers in the region. Inspections have been intensified here.
