Helmet to be made part of police uniform in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: A recommendation has been made to make helmets part of the uniform of the state police. In a report to Home Secretary Subrata Biswas, DGP Loknath Behera has recommended helmet allowance along with uniform allowance for the police officers.
It has been recommended to allow Rs 1500 as helmet allowance once in five years along with the uniform allowance. It has been a long time demand of the police association and others. It is learned that the order in this regard will be issued soon.
The amount should be allowed in two instalments, as per the recommendations. The officers can directly purchase the helmets of the specified standard from the police headquarters. The benefit will be provided to the officers ranging from civil police officers and non-IPS SPs.
Though there are helmets in the police camps, only a very few use them during work hours. This is mainly because of the hesitation to use helmets used by others and difference in size.
However, this can adversely affect the safety of the officers as the chances of head injury are high while handling clashes and conflicts in public places. The police chief forwarded the recommendation to the authority considering this situation.
