Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted widespread rain across Kerala in coming days in view of the possibility of low pressure area formation over Bay of Bengal. Spells of heavy to very heavy rain are likely to occur in various districts of the state in next 24 hours.
An Orange alert has been issued in Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday, August 3. Orange alert has also been issued in Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday, August 4. Also, in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday (Aug 5) and Thursday (Aug 6).
Rains ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm are forecast in these districts.
A Yellow alert has been issued in:
August 2, Sunday – Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
August 3 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad
August 4 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam
August 5 – Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad
August 6 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad
In these districts, rains ranging from 56.5 mm to 115.5 mm are predicted.
With the rain forecast from IMD, Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued warning to the public and government systems to exercise caution against landslide, mudflow and rough sea.
KSDMA also instructed authorities to rehabilitate people staying in diasater-prone areas.
