Heavy rains to lash Kerala; Yellow alert issued in various districts


Thiruvananthapuram: A Yellow alert has been issued in several districts in the wake of Indian Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rains in the state on Wednesday.

Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts for Wednesday and in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Thursday.

Also, Yellow alert has been sounded for Friday in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

High intensity rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is predicted in isolated places in 24 hours.

Authorities have warned to exercise caution in hilly and coastal regions in view of possible landslide and mudslide and rough sea.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea after inclement weather warning.
