Heavy rains to lash Kerala; yellow alert issued in 5 districts


Fisherfolk have been warned not to venture into the sea in Kerala and Karnataka coasts on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of severe rain in Kerala.

Following this, a yellow alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. These districts are likely to witness 64.5 to 115.5 mm of rain in the next 24 hours.

Yellow alert in districts:

  • July 2- Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
  • July 3- Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod
  • July 4- Kannur, Kasaragod
  • July 5- Kasaragod
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned people residing near the banks of rivers, areas prone to landslides and mudslides and in coastal areas vulnerable to sea attacks to exercise caution.

IMD has warned fisherfolk not to venture into the sea as strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and adverse weather is expected in Kerala and Karnataka coasts on Wednesday and Thursday.
