Heavy rains to lash Kerala in next 5 days, yellow alert issued in various districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meterological Department has alerted that Kerala will receive heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder from May 16, Saturday to May 20, Monday. In view of the warning, a yellow alert is sounded in various districts of the state.

May 16: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kannur
May 17: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad
May 18: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram
It is forecast that isolated places in these districts will receive rainfall from 64.5mm to 115.5mm within 24 hours.
IMD also alerted that gusty winds will be experienced in various parts of the state from May 16 to May 20.
The advisory issued by the IMD also alerted the public to strictly follow the guidelines issued by Kerala State Disaster Management Authority to prevent lightning accidents.
It is forecast that lightning, followed by rain will hit the state around 2 pm to 10 pm. In some places, it will continue until midnight. Such lightning is disastrous. It will be harmful to human beings as well as electric equipment. Hence, the public is advised to strictly follow the guidelines, directed KSDMA.
The authority also warned that the public should be vigilant whenever rain clouds appear in the sky. As lightning is not visible, proper measures should be taken to prevent damage from the disaster.
KSDMA also pointed out the need to take care of children. It is directed that children should not be allowed to play outside from 2 pm to 10 pm if the sky is cloudy.
