Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that heavy rains will continue in Kerala till September 3. All districts have been placed under yellow alert on Wednesday. Five southern districts in Kerala will receive heavy downpours in the next three hours.
“Thunderstorm with Heavy rainfall & gusty winds speed reaching 40 Kmph is likely at one or two places in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Idukki,” reads the IMD alert.
IMD has sounded orange alert in Idukki, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts on Tuesday in view of the heavy rains.
Very heavy rainfall from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is expected within 24 hours in these districts.
IMD has placed several districts under yellow alert from August 30 to September 3.
People residing in hilly regions are asked to stay vigilant. Fisherfolks are warned against venturing into sea.
