Heavy rains in southern districts; orange alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam
Thiruvananthapuram: A depression formed in the south-west Bay of Bengal is likely to cause heavy rains in the southern districts of Kerala, said the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA)
Following this the KSDMA has issued orange alert in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Besides, the KSDMA issued yellow alert in several district in the coming days.
According to India Meteorological Department, the depression is likely to intensify over Kanyakumari region on Tuesday. It would intensify into a deep depression and move towards Lakshadweep – Maldives on Thursday.
The depression is likely to cause rough seas between Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts in the coming days. KSDMA has warned fisherfolk from Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts not to venture into the sea from Monday.
KSDMA also sought fishermen, who have ventured into the sea, to return to the nearest shore as soon as possible.
