Heavy rain: Tribal hamlets in Kothamangalam isolated
Kothamangalam (Ernakulam): As the water level in Pooyamkutty river increased in the heavy rain, the tribal hamlets in Kothamangalam have been isolated. The walkover bridge to Manikandanchal submerged in the waters and the hamlets including Manikandamchal, Vellaramkuthu and Uriyampetti isolated as a result.
Manikandanchal bridge submerged in water almost every time during heavy rains due to its unscientific construction. Though the locals have been protesting against this for many years, no action was taken even to construct a handrail for the bridge.
As the walkover bridge was flooded, those who went to the forest area and outside the village in the morning struggled to return home. Vehicles and pedestrians managed to come back to the hamlets by crossing the bridge submerged in water adventuruously.
