Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Kerala will receive very heavy rain in the coming days. Orange and yellow alerts have been sounded in various districts from December 1 to 2.
As per the weather forecast, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts will receive very heavy rain on December 1. At the same time, very heavy rain will lash Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on December 2. It is forecasted that these districts will receive 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm rainfall within 24 hours. Hence, an orange alert has been sounded in these districts.
Meanwhile, yellow alert was sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam districts on December 1 and in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Kottayam districts on December 2. IMD has forecasted that 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm rainfall is expected in these districts on these days.
In view of the IMD forecast, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has alerted the public and government system to stay vigilant to avert danger. People residing in low-lying areas, river banks, hilly areas and regions prone to landslides and mudslides are advised to be vigilant during the rain.
