Heavy rain to continue in Kerala; orange, yellow alerts issued in districts


An orange alert has been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on September 10 and 11 (Thursday and Friday).

Thiruvananthapuram: India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that Kerala will continue to receive heavy rains in the coming days.

The IMD has predicted heavy rains in isolated areas in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on September 10 and 11. An orange alert has been issued in these districts on Thursday and Friday.

Moreover, the IMD has issued yellow alerts in various districts until September 14.

Yellow alert in districts

September 10: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad.

September 11: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad.

September 12: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod.

September 13: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod.

September 14: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has directed the officials and public to exercise caution. KSDMA warned of water entering low-lying areas and inundation in cities.

KSDMA also urged people residing in danger prone areas to cooperate with officials when asked to relocate to safer areas. It urged those residing near seashores to remain alert and directed the public to avoid travelling to hilly areas.
