Thiruvananthapuram: The India Metrological Department has withdrawn the red alert issued for five districts in Kerala on Monday as rain subsided in the state. Meanwhile, IMD sounded an orange alert in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday.
“The presence of cyclonic circulations over Lakshadweep and north Tamil Nadu coast are expected to bring fairly widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/ lightning/gusty winds with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Kerala, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka during the next five days, alerted IMD.

May 16 – Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
May 17 – Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
May 18 – Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
Yellow alert in districts
May 16 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha
May 17 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Wayand
May 18 – Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki
May 19 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
May 20 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam
Though IMD sounded yellow alert in some districts, people in hilly regions are advised to exercise extreme caution similar to orange alert in view of the heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
