Thiruvananthapuram: As per the predictions of the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Daye that caused storm in Odisha is not likely to affect Kerala. However, it has predicted heavy rains in some places on September 25.
A Yellow Alert has been issued in Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts on September 25. As per the weather prediction, 7-11 cm rainfall will occur in one or two place within 24 hours. Yellow Alert warns public to follow the weather predictions carefully. The warning signs are issued in an order starting from green, yellow, orange and red.
A depression formed in the mid north of the Bay of Bengal on Thursday night developed into the cyclone in Gopalpur of Odisha resulting in a heavy storm. The cyclone will pass east Rajasthan by Monday and will be feeble by the time. It is not likely to affect the weather in Kerala.
However, a depression channel is likely to develop from Karnataka to Kanyakumari. Also off shore vortex will be formed from Sri Lanka to Kanyakumari region. These are the reasons for the prediction of heavy rain in the state on September 25, said the Director of Meteorological Centre K. Santhosh.
