Idukki receives 112 per cent more rainfall this year


This is the second time in the 121 years of history of IMD that the Northeast Monsoon hits with more than 1000 mL. Pathanamthitta was the district to receive the highest rainfall in this season.

Thiruvananthapuram: Idukki received the highest Northeast Monsoon (Thulavarsham) in its history this year. The shutters of Mullaperiyar dam were opened twice and the Idukki dam thrice this year.

A total of 1042.9 millilitres of rain was received in Idukki alone during the days between October 1 to November 18 and this is 112 per cent higher than normal rate. The previous highest record was 1037.5 millilitre in 1999.
