Thiruvananthapuram: The dams in Kerala are under scrutiny again as a warning on the possibility of heavy rains was issued. KSEB warned of opening the Idukki dam again if it continues to rain heavily. Kakki dam was opened on Saturday.
If more water has to flow from the Mullaperiyar and heavy rains lash the catchment areas of Idukki Dam and the Periyar river basin, the shutters have to be raised. However, the assessment is that there is no need to worry about the water level in Idukki for the next 24 hours.
A red alert has been issued for six dams of KSEB. These are Kakki, Ponmudi, Poringalkuthu, Kundala, Kallarkutty and Moozhiyar. Orange alert has been issued for Idukki, Sholayar, Anayirangal and Mattupetty dam.
