Heavy rain likely in Kerala till Saturday; Orange, Yellow alerts in various districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains in Kerala in com ing days. Orange and Yellow alerts were issued in various districts owing to the forecast of heavy rains across the state.
"Kerala will receive heavy rains in many places due to the low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal,” alerted IMD. In view of this, Kerala Disaster Management Authority alerted the public and government systems to stay vigilant and prepare for adverse situations.
Districts placed under Orange alert are as follows:
August 4: Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
August 5: Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
August 6: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram,Kozhikode, Wayanad,Kannur, Kasaragod
August 8: Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
IMD forecast very heavy rainfall from 1156 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours in these districts. At the same time, extremely heavy rain is forecast in Malappuram and Idukki on August 8. Extremely heavy rain is predicted when rainfall intensity crosses 204.5 mm within 24 hours.

August 4: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad
August 5: Thiruvananthapuram, Kolla, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad
August 6: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam
August 7: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam
August 8: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha
In the districts were yellow alert is sounded, heavy rainfall from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours is expected.
People residing close to low-lying areas, river banks and areas prone to landslide and mudflow are advised to stay vigilant.
