Heavy rain likely in Kerala on Sunday too; red alert in 3 districts


Another depression will be formed in the Bay of Bengal near Odisha and West Bengal on Sunday. However, this is unlikely to intensify further and affect Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: The meteorological department warned of heavy rain in many parts of the state on Sunday too. A red alert has been issued in Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad districts and an orange alert in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. As clouds are formed in hilly areas, heavy rain is expected in such places.

Another depression will be formed in the Bay of Bengal near Odisha and West Bengal on Sunday. However, this depression is not expected to intensify further and is unlikely to affect Kerala. So, the rainfall in Kerala is likely to reduce by Tuesday.

From August 14 to 20, the rainfall in the state is expected to be normal. In the week till August 5, rainfall that occurred in Kerala and Mahe gauged above average (101 percent). When 12.9 centimetre rain was expected, there was 25.9 centimetre rain.
