Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department alerted isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Kerala till Thursday. Various districts have been placed under a yellow alert for the next four days.
Yellow alerts in districts at a glance
- Sunday- Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki
- Wednesday- Pathanamthitta, Idukki
- Thursday - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta
On Sunday, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Idukki even though only a yellow alert has been sounded. IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea on Kerala coast on Sunday. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along-off Kerala coast, reads IMD press release.
It has been said that there is no restriction on fishing off the coasts of Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
Special Warning- India Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds of 40-50 kmph and in some places up to 60 kmph along the Tamil Nadu coast, Kanyakumari coast, Gulf of Mannar coast and the southwestern Bay of Bengal on Sunday and Monday. It also warns not to go fishing in these areas during the above days.
