Thiruvananthapuram: Unabated heavy rain continued to lash many parts of Kerala. Orange alert has been declared in Kollam and Alappuzha districts as part of the precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rain will continue in the state for the next five days due to a depression in the Arabian Sea.
The heavy rain that started in southern Kerala on Saturday still continues unabated and it has caused water-logging in many areas. IMD has also warmed that northern Kerala will also experience heavy rainfall after Sunday.
The depression, which is moving north, will weaken in the next 48 hours. Fisherfolk have been directed not to venture into the sea as there are chances of strong winds and waves.
