Heavy rain in Kerala; IMD sounds yellow alert in northern districts
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala continues to receive heavy rain for the past few days. As the rainfall intensified, the India Meteorological Department sounded a yellow alert in northern Kerala.
According to IMD forecast, Kerala is likely to receive very heavy rainfall within the next 3 hours.
Gusty winds with speed reaching 40 km/hour is likely over Kerala. Sea attacks is also predicted.
IMD also warned people residing in coastal and hilly areas to stay vigilant. Fishermen were also advised not to venture into the sea.
As the water level crossed the limit, shutters of the Peringalkutthu dam in Thrissur will be opened on Friday at 11 am. It is learned that up to 200 cumecs water will be released from the dam.
Kerala Disaster Management Authority warned people residing near Chalakudy river to exercise caution.
