Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is experiencing heavy rainfall in various regions, accompanied by strong thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that the heavy rain will persist in the coming days, with chances of isolated showers.
An alert has been issued for hilly areas, cautioning residents about potential risks.
A yellow alert was announced in Idukki on Tuesday.
On Monday, several areas across the state reported damages due to the heavy rain. The hilly region of Kozhikode witnessed particularly heavy rainfall, leading to the washing away of a temporary bridge at Punnakkal in Thiruvambady caused by the overflowing stream.
In another incident, a lorry lost control due to the rain and met with an accident at the Koodathai bridge near Thamarassery. The lorry veered off course and collided with the retaining wall of the bridge. Additionally, a fallen tree crashed onto a car at Koottalida.
Thiruvananthapuram city also witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday.
Residents living in landslide-prone areas are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant. A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki on Tuesday. Furthermore, fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the sea due to the prevailing weather conditions.
