Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has ordered to initiate a scientific inquiry into rabies deaths in the state. An expert committee will be formed for this purpose.

This committee will probe the deaths of the people who suffered dog bites this year. The scientific inquiry aims to solve the growing concerns of rabies infection and row over the efficacy of the anti-rabies vaccine in the state.

The expert committee has to submit the inquiry report within two weeks.

According to reports, 19 people died of rabies infection in Kerala in 2022.

The government has been facing criticism following the death of two persons who died of rabies infection even after taking the vaccine.
