Kalpetta: Wayanad Government Medical College action committee condemned the declaration of Health Minister over the construction of a Medical College at Glen Leven estate in Boys Town. Veena George had claimed that the Medical Education Director has been entrusted to speed up the construction of the Medical College building on the plot which is under legal dispute. The minister has attempted to betray the people of Wayanad, accused the action committee.

The state government has approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order which forbids the government from occupying the land of Glen Leven estate. Hence, nothing could be done in this land without the declaration of a final verdict in the case, asserted the representatives of the action committee. The accreditation of the National Medical Council cannot be obtained without building an academic block of the Medical College.

The action committee demanded to build the Medical College in Madakkimala on a war footing. Former minister PK Jayalakshmi, who was also part of the cabinet’s early decision to construct a Medical College on Madakkimala, has now welcomed the government’s decision to upgrade the district hospital to a Medical College, noted the action committee.

The committee criticised the opposition for being silent against the government’s announcement that the Medical College would be built on the disputed land. The representatives of the committee informed that a demonstration will be conducted in front of the district collectorate on November 23 in connection with the third phase of the protest.
