Health dept to collect samples of quarantined people at home
Kottayam: In view of the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the state, the health department will visit people in home quarantine to collect their samples for the test. It is learned that action was taken to speed up this new procedure to prevent COVID-19. People in home quarantine after returning from abroad and other states will be identified for this purpose.
The test results will be made available within one to five days.
The procedure of the test
ASHA workers will collect the details of the people who returned to the state from abroad and other states. Name, address, phone number, place of return and mode of commutation will be collected.
These details will be handed over to health inspectors. A medical team including doctor and nurse from nearest Primary Health Centre will visit each person at their residence in a special ambulance and collect the sample as per the COVID-19 protocol. If necessary counselling will be given to the people.
The samples will be sent to the lab on the same day of collection. At first, the test results will be forwarded to the district medical office and later to the respective primary health centre.
Dr Amar Fettle, state Corona control nodal officer reported that sample collection at home is safer as the infected people will not come into contact with more people.
Taking the people for sample collection at a hospital or primary health centre will increase the chances of the virus transmission to more people, he added.
Hence, the department has decided to visit quarantined people at home and collect their sample.
