Health dept opposes; No long-distance bus services in state anytime soon
Kozhikode: Transport Minister AK Saseendran said that the decision to resume long-distance route KSRTC bus services in the state from Saturday, August 1, was revoked. The health department has marked strong disagreement over resuming bus services in the wake of surging Covid-19 contact cases.
“Most of the district headquarters are containment zones. There are 498 hotspots in the state. Many of the KSRTC employees have tested positive for Covid-19. Considering the situation and suggestion from health department, the decision to resume long-distance KSRTC bus services have been cancelled,” Saseendran said in a press meet.
The situation in the state requires strict restrictions. Many depots had to be closed down. The decision on short-distance bus services itself has to be re-evaluated, he added.
Earlier the day, Minister had said that 206 state-owned KSRTC buses will resume services on long-distance routes from Saturday within the state, as per Covid protocols.
