Thiruvananthapuram: Executive director of the social security mission Mr. Mohammed Asheel has been appointed as the medical officer of the casualty department of Payyanur Taluk hospital. The transfer of Asheel, who played a significant role in Covid care, to a minor post has caught attention.
The appointment comes in the wake of Asheel’s five-year deputation as executive director was coming to an end. The first order issued by the social justice department stated that the deputation was canceled.
However, in a fresh order issued the next day, it was said that the decision was made as per the request put forward by Asheel to reinstate him to his former department. The new order was issued barely a day after he rejoined as an assistant surgeon in the health department.
Dr. Asheel played a significant role in managing Covid, helming the role of a decision-maker and working hand in hand with former minister of health KK Shailaja. He also played a pivotal role in defending the government in the wake of criticism over the lapses in Covid management in the state.
Recently, the Gender park CEO, Muhammed Suneesh, who had a close association with Shailaja, was also transferred to the Anganwadi Welfare Fund Board. All this happened after Shailaja was excluded from the cabinet. There is also an allegation that a group of CPM leaders is behind these transfers.
